This weeks mayoral results lead to an upcoming runoff. See what the Express News has to say about the impact we have made!
1. We need a COSA-owned mental health system. We cannot rely on the federal or state governments to provide vital mental health services to COSA citizens. For every $1 spent on mental health, there is a $7 return on improved health, improved work productivity, lower crime rate, & higher academic functioning. Former Mayor Julián Castro showed us how a fraction of a penny increase in sales tax paid for the Pre-K 4 SA program. Now graduates of that program, through improved attendance, have brought $73,000,000 more federal dollars to SA schools.
2. We can reduce traffic congestion and automobile emissions NOW by changing how we drive. Pick a day you don't drive each week. On highways, implement *variable speed lanes* such that only the left lane is 65 mph and each lane to the right goes 5 mph slower. Within the city, create more *right turn only* lanes on major streets. Many more changes are possible before 2050 (more ideas to follow). Technology and more roads are not the only answer.
3. Our mayor Ron Nirenberg is doing a good job. If you support him, you need to encourage him to implement the ideas I have to offer to create a healthier city.
Dr. John M. Velasquez (psychologist) has been serving our community for many years, working tirelessly to make it a better place, seeking justice, equity, peace and mental health for all.
There are 89 zip codes in San Antonio, TX and there should be a CITY OWNED mental health clinic in every zip code at no cost to citizens. We need to work together to avoid delays getting mental health care and remove obstacles to improved brain functioning.
Dr. Velasquez has a copyrighted plan to improve traffic congestion through behavior change. If implemented, there will be fewer traffic jams, the mental health of San Antonio residents will improve, the air quality will improve, and The City can move rapidly toward meeting the goals of the Paris Accords.
